What is a live burn? A live burn consists of burning solid, or liquid fuels or structures for the purpose of bonafide instruction and training of first responders, insurance professionals, and those who need to understand the totality of a fire. Live burns are an invaluable experience in educating a claims professional in the events that transpire before, during, and after the loss, as well as the claims handling involved with this unique peril. You don’t see live burns often as they are logistically and labor-intensive… Live burns are permissible when conducted under the direct control and supervision of qualified instructors. When you can experience heat, smoke, and flame fronts in a training environment you have received a dose of reality when it comes to what the policyholder, resident, or Claimant experienced. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
